he last surviving person in the Owerri building collapse, Miss Blessing Ofomezie who sustained huge renal injuries on Sunday, following the incident, yesterday died at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), Rivers State.
Her death brings the total casualties to six, leaving no rescued survivor from the debris.
Imo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Andrew Enwerem told The AUTHORITY that she died following huge renal complications.
The late Miss Ofomezie was a graduate of Adult Education from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and had just completed her youth service.
Ofomezie who spent over eight hours before her rescue in the debris sustained huge internal injuries involving her kidney and urinary organs which doctors battled to manage. During a visit to the hospital on Monday, she was crying, complaining about the pains she said was tormenting her on her inside.
DSP Enwerem explained that Ofomezie was managed by the Police medical team who later transported her to UPTH where she was closely monitored.
He regretted that despite the many efforts, Ofomezie died praying God to comfort her family.
The other rescued male Corps member, Corper Chinedu died on Monday following a Cardiac arrest.
