AFAC lights up Art and crafts village

Art is a system of life. It is a decade long innovation that keeps changing with the tides of civilization and development. It essence is to showcase our cultural heritage.
 
The values expressed by the artist are cumulative expressions of his cultural intake from the day of his birth till date. Culture is a collec­tive programming of the mind that distinguishes the members of one group or category of people from another. Culture is communication, communication is culture.
 
This year’s edition of African art and crafts, the event tagged our cul­ture: the untapped treasure, under the visionary leadership of Direc­tor General, DG, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, National consul of Art and Culture(NCAC) Propelled a vi­sion that will bring all African coun­tries together to attend this memo­rable festival of art.
 
It is expected that this initiation would encourage a better under­standing of the various countries in the artistic impressions and crafts of the collaborating countries.
 
Speaking at his press briefing,the event will be different from the oth­er ones,skill acquisition programme will be introduced to enhance the capacity of creative artists in various areas. Experts would also be avail­able to teach interested participant the simple way in communicating with Nigeria major languages like Hausa,Igbo,Yoruba among others.
 
It is his determination to unbun­dle the huge potentials in the cre­ative sector to strategically drive the process of economic diversification in line with the policy of this admin­istration. He went on to say,the Art and Crafts village is undergoing ren­ovation including landscaping and beautification that will meet inter­national standard,Nigeria and the whole of Africa would be proud of.
 
Before this time,the expo had been held at the art and crafts village on a bare,dusty and even ground.This year it will be different,the entire vil­lage would be illuminated with the flood lights for the first time in the history of the village.
 
The AUTHORITY newspapers Correspondent;visited the art and crafts village to interview some of the residence artists, they welcome the expo,saying for a long time the village has been neglected,they are so proud of the DG,for this loudable ineciative and the renovation going on.
 
Other artists in their view,Art training centres’ should be estab­lished in metropolitan areas across the country,that it will increased access to art and art education of crafts,Visual and performing arts for all tertiary educational institutions,including local lan­guages so that our arts and cul­ture will not go extinction. One of the artists said, Artist has had its fair share of doubts where the Ni­gerian society hardly appreciates Artistry,most of the time,pople are of the view that Artist are people with no intelligence or have no am­bition in life.
 
Artists used their art as way of re­connecting with heritage as well as a vehicle for protest and action to comment on issues of stolen gen­eration.Arts attracts tourism;most countries benefit,from tourism.
 
In faraway France (louvers) people pay $7 in and view art works,some time ago an art piece by Nigerian artist sold for N12m at an ART. Auction that took place in Lagos.In no doubts the art and crafts village will be tourists souvenir industry in the FCT.
 
The official opening ceremony will kick start on 5th September to end on 27 September.
