Zamfara donkey owners protest electrocution of animals

Hundreds of donkey owners have violently stormed the office of the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), Gusau the Zamfara State capital to protest against the electrocution of three of their donkeys.

The owners during the protest demanded for the payment of their dead donkeys from the KEDCO authorities who were accused of being responsible for the electrocution.

Carrying some offensive weapons in their hands, the protesters explained that they will not leave the premises of the KEDCO office until the death of their donkeys are paid for.

The death of the donkeys was as a result of the negligence of the KEDCO authorities which refused to repair the wires that felt down following a heavy wind that occurred recently.

Some of the owners who spoke to The AUTHORITY few minutes after the protest, stated that they should either be paid or they are prepared go to any length should their request be refused.

According to them, “It was their fault by allowing the wires which were live to have continued to remain laid carelessly on the road”, said one of the owners, Isah Gusau.

According to him, it is the duty of the suppliers of the electricity anywhere to take proper care of their facilities.

“They have started with the animals now, next time, it will be human being, if care is not taken”, added one Sani Umar.

The officials would have been lynched, but for the intervention of the police who whisked them away to avoid further destruction.
