The University of Abuja (UniAbuja) alumni association at the weekend resolved its factional crisis and elected executives to run affairs of the body for the period of two years.
Announcing the result at the convocation square of the university main campus, chairman of the alumni electoral committee, Professor Adegboyega Kolawale, declared Comrade Musa Thomas as the national president of the body.
He said Musa Thomas pulled 281 votes to defeat Aliyu Mohammed Jimoh, who got 195 votes in the keenly contested election.
Professor Kolawale said the school had for sometimes had no alumni body due to internal crisis, but after several discussions the university management resolved the face-off and gave go ahead for the setting up of the committee that conducted the election.
Responding on behalf of the newly elected members, the national publicity secretary-elect, Ismail Gambo, assured all the old students of the school that the executives on assumption of office would liaise with the management to make things work more better.
He said the executives would bring innovations that would distinguished the institution from many others, especially in area of Information Communication Technology (ICT).
“The alumni within this two years in office will assist the school to boost its ICT, when a student finishes his or her last paper as a graduate the name will be send directly to the school website, to enhance credibility.”
Gambo called on those who lost the election to join hands with them in moving the school forward in all areas.
He stated that the aim of the alumni was to be organising all those that passed out from the school to see the need of supporting the school management in ensuring that both facilities and standard of academics are upheld.
