Union Bank Men’s Hockey team made up of 18 players and 5 officials will depart Lagos on Thursday for a training tour of Ghana.
The Tunde Odedokun-led team is expected to play two friendly games against Bank of Ghana (Exchequers Hockey club) and Trustee Hockey club at the Accra Sports Stadium.
According to Odedokun, the two games in Accra, scheduled to hold on April 21 and 23, 2017 respectfully, would be used to strategise for the forthcoming National Hockey Super League billed for July this year.
“We were runners-up in the Super League last year, and we want to be Champions this year, hence we are taking our preparations serious. We are very grateful to the Union Bank management for giving the hockey team both moral and financial support,” said Odedokun who applauded his team for winning the maiden National 5-A-side Hockey tournament in Port Harcourt last weekend.
In the tournament played at the General Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt, Union Bank won the men’s category on 12 points while Young Steeds of Ilorin, Kwara State and Rivers United emerged first and second runners-up on 11 and 7 points respectively. Rivers Queens won in the women’s category on 6 points as Ocean Queens of Bayelsa were runners-up.
