A group, Northern Youths for Peace and Development (NYPD) said it was disturbed by reports in some national newspapers last week which stated that the Senate rejected the report of its Committee on Southern Kaduna crisis headed by Senator Kabiru Gaya from Kano State.
The leader of the group, Ngeleri Daniel, said in a statement that the report was disturbing not only to the association but the entire North and the Senate especially as it was hoped that with the action of the upper chamber, permanent peace will return to the North.
Ngeleri further stated that until Sen Gaya briefed the press to clear the air on some suspicion in which he assured that the Senate never rejected the report, the matter raised a deep concern in the North.
He said that the region has not enjoyed the dividends of democracy particularly the North-East as it has witnessed unprecedented hostilities since the return of democracy in 1999.
The group said that the association and indeed many Nigerians are of the opinion that Senator Gaya is a man of proven integrity and therefore, has nothing to fear about the report.
While describing Sen Gaya as a man whose antecedents give no room for doubt if given any national assignment, he said the role played by the senator in dousing tension in Rivers State when there was political upheaval remains a record to beat.
