The office of the Director of Defence Information has dissociated itself from a statement credited to the Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen Rabe Abubakar who was quoted as saying that the military are fighting Boko Haram with inferior weapons.
A statement yesterday by Group Captain WM Maigida for the Director of Defence Information, pointed out that the director never made such statement in a media chat with a television channel, The African Independent television, pointing out that such statement is not only inciting but completely out of context.
Part of the statement reads: “The attention of the Directorate of Defence Information was drawn to the above headline attributed to have been said by its Director, Brigadier General Rabe Abubakar.
“This headline is not only inciting but completely out of context because the Director never made such statement throughout the media interaction with the AIT that invited him to shed light and sensitise Nigerians on the new antics of suicide bombers in the Northeast.
“Consequently, the Nigerian Armed Forces will continue to be professional and continue to guard the constitution and subordinate itself to democratic governance of this country.”
The statement called on Nigerians to support the military in the fight against terrorism and other criminal activities, assuring that it will remain focused in protecting lives and property of law-abiding citizens.
